Lead a group of Staff and Senior Naval Architects in the design, analysis, and development of ships and marine structures.
Oversee project teams, ensure compliance with industry regulations, and provide technical expertise in stability, hydrodynamics, structural integrity, and related disciplines.
Produce functional drawings for new vessel construction and modifications, ensuring compliance with applicable standards, codes, and class/regulatory rules.
Review Vendor Furnished Information for compliance and acceptability.
Utilize industry-standard naval architecture and engineering software such as GHS, Rhino, AutoCAD, and ANSYS to support design and analysis tasks.
Essential Functions
Mentor junior engineers and contribute to research and innovation in marine technology.
Review and approve drawings and technical reports for release.
Work on new vessel and vessel modification design projects involving structural design, outfit design, weight estimating, stability analysis, and related naval architecture tasks.
Perform engineering calculations to support design decisions and conduct quality checks to ensure final products meet all quality standards and contract requirements.
Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and act as a technical liaison between engineering, project management, and production teams.
Provide leadership in workload planning, engineering standards development, and process improvement initiatives.
Other Responsibilities
Participate in client meetings and develop successful working relationships.
Work with multidisciplinary staff across engineering, production, and project management groups.
Support the Estimating/Proposal Group with takeoffs, specification reviews, concept design, and proposal support.
Travel to shipyards, client offices, and vessels as needed for inspections, testing, and project support.
Requirements
Job Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Naval Architecture from an ABET accredited school.
10 plus years as a Naval Architect is required.
Professional Engineers License is preferred.
Experience working on both commercial and government projects is a plus.
Understanding of ABS, USCG, & SOLAS rules.
Ability to develop, comprehend, and evaluate contract specifications.
